Advent is a season that invites us to believe,
When the circumstances of this world,
Might tempt us to despair.
To believe that good will prevail,
Even though evil seems still to thrive.
To believe in visions of a better world,
Though endeavours to pursue it might be thwarted.
To believe that God is present,
Even when we struggle to see where.
To remember that the purposes of Heaven,
Have often been accomplished,
Through events that few would recognise,
As the means of greater good.

An Advent prayer
Emmanuel GodGrant us the wisdom to recognise your presence
Where it is ours to find,
And the faith to believe
That you are never absent
Even if sometimes unseen;
You are always at work
Though your hand is sometimes hidden;
The good can prevail
Even in those things that might cause us to despair.
So help us be heralds of hope
In our troubled and uncertain world.
