Home Mission is the lifeblood of our Union. For over a century local Baptists have expressed their
covenant relationship and commitment to sharing the message of Jesus through our Home Mission fund. The funds raised
are invested in many local mission situations, as well as supporting the vital services provided through our national specialist
teams and local Associations.
Churches are asked to responsibly consdier contributing 5% of their regular income to our Home Mission fund. While we recognise that
this may not be possible for everyone, if you are a church treasurer or leader, we ask you to reflect seriously on this target. The current reality
is that our present levels of giving are not keeping up with our ongoing costs. But if every church was able to increase its current level of
giving by 1%, this shortfall would be fully met. That means if you are currently giving 4%, an increase to 5% would make a significant impact.
You can use our
quick calculator to work out what a 1% difference might mean.
You can also find out more about how our Home Mission scheme operates nationally through our
Baptists Together website.
We recognise that everyone's circumstances are different, and there are several ways that you can promote Home Mission in your church. Many churches
invite members to make a small additional contribution that can be sent directly to Home Mission. Why not show
this short video in one of your services to remind people of some of the things that Home Mission makes possible. We can also give you details
of local situations that are supported through Home Mission with whom you can connect to find out more.
You could also use our
count me in scheme to encourage giving to your own church
funds which could then be used to increase your Home Mission total. We recognise that every church's circumstances are different - all we
ask is that you seriously consider the needs if your Baptist family alongside othe demands on your church finances.
